2023TIFA《鯨之嶋》一齣寫給臺灣的身世寓言神話
拾念劇集✕無獨有偶✕施如芳
《鯨之嶋》由拾念劇集所創作構想的遠古神話，被形容為臺灣版的《山海經》故事，是一齣結合當代偶戲與南北管的島嶼奇幻音樂劇。構思《鯨之嶋》標準字時，直覺只有東漢碑刻上的隸書體能夠表現出這種魔幻寓言的史詩感，但在網路搜尋時卻意外遇見了「金農漆書」，這更完美貼近預設的理想。
漆書是由清朝書法家金農 (揚州八怪之首) 所創造，有著一種奇特、怪異、頭重腳輕、橫畫寬厚、直畫纖細，落筆如刀切斧劈，具有濃厚的金石書體味道，也可以說是近期流行 Reverse-contrast (逆反差字型) 的始祖。

2023 TIFA — "Whale Island" An origin myth written for Taiwan
"Whale Island" is an ancient myth invented by Shi-Nian Theatre — often called a Taiwanese version of the Classic of Mountains and Seas — blending puppetry with nanguan and beiguan music into an island fantasy musical.
For the title lettering, the team wanted the epic, mythic weight of Han-dynasty stone-carved script, and found it in "lacquer script," created by Qing-dynasty calligrapher Jin Nong. It's strange and top-heavy — thick horizontal strokes, thin verticals, cut like a blade — an early ancestor of today's reverse-contrast typefaces.
Visual surface: styled like a fake archaeological rubbing of an ancient tombstone inscription — a whale and fossilized beasts above, a flood below. It's unclear whether this is the world before or after the flood.
Underlying feeling: epic, vast, dark, mythic — many objects, viewpoints, and interpretations overlapping and shaping one another.
